Independence Hall

Tours of Independence Hall are offered daily and provide a great opportunity to discover the unique history of Texas. Check the Visitor Center for times and tickets.


Barrington Living History Farm

The farm is structured to be a self-paced experience.  Only groups of 20 or more require advance reservations and are scheduled only during the week (Monday – Friday).


Star of the Republic Museum

Please allow at least one hour to see everything. Handheld audio tour devices are available, at no charge.


Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site

Tours available Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. For group or school tours please call 936.878.2214.


Group Tours

To make a reservation for an adult tour group with 20 or more participants, simply fill out the Tour Request Form (hyperlink) online. Once it has been submitted, the Museum will contact you to finalize and confirm the request. If you do not get a response, check your “junk mail” and spam folders to be sure it did not get filtered as “junk.”

To receive a group rate, reservations should be made at least two weeks prior to your visit.

School Tours

Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site is a great destination for school tours. History comes to life as students gain firsthand knowledge from the exciting and educational exhibits, re-enactments and historical sites that help them to better understand the lives of early Texans.

Food and Picnic

There are currently no restaurant vendors within the Park; however, snacks and drinks are available in the Gift Shop. The pecan grove near the river offers 26 free picnic sites and two covered rental picnic pavilions, with a capacity of either 50 or 100. The pavilions may be reserved by calling 512.389.8900.

Please feel free to bring a picnic and enjoy it among the beautiful scenery that the historic site has to offer. Alcohol is prohibited in state parks.

No food or drinks are allowed inside the Museum, Visitor Center, Fanthorp Inn, Independence Hall or Barrington Living History Farm. Please help us preserve and protect the integrity of these historic sites.


Pets

Washington on the Brazos State Park is pet-friendly (leash required), and you are welcome to explore the park grounds with your pets. However, for the safety and consideration of our other visitors, pets are NOT permitted inside the Museum, Visitor Center, Independence Hall or at the Barrington Living History Farm.


Getting Here

Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site is located on the Brazos River, at the original townsite of Washington, Texas, a major political and commercial center in early Texas.

It is located at 23400 Park Road 12, Washington, TX, 77880—approximately halfway between Brenham and Navasota, off of State Hwy. 105. From Hwy 105, follow either FM 912 or FM 1155 to Park Road 12.  WOB is located approximately 1-1/2 hours northwest of Houston, and less than two hours from Austin.

Driving Directions

From Houston
Take Highway 290 West to Highway 6 at Hempstead. Take Highway 6 North to Navasota. From Navasota, take Highway 105 West for 7 miles and turn left on FM 1155, turn left on Park Road 12 to Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site.

From D/FW or Waco
From Waco take I-35 to Highway 6 South. Come down Highway 6 South to Navasota. From Navasota take Highway 105 West for 7 miles and turn left on FM 1155, turn left on Park Road 12 to Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site.

From San Antonio
Go I-10 East to Highway 77 North, then take Highway 290 East to Brenham. From Brenham, take Highway 105 East for 14 miles and turn right on FM 912, turn right on Park Road 12 to Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site.

From Austin
Take Highway 290 East to Brenham. In Brenham, take Business Route 290 to Highway 105 East. Go 14 miles and turn right on FM 912, turn right on Park Road 12 to Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site.

From Brenham
Take Highway 105 East for 14 miles and turn right on FM 912, turn right on Park Road 12 to Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site.

From Navasota
Take Highway 105 West for 7 miles, turn left on FM 1155, turn left on Park Road 12 to Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site.
