A Light In the Dark
02/07/2015 - 02/08/2015, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
Location: Barrington Living History Farm
How do people see at night without electricity?
What about those who lived in the 1860s? On the Barrington Farm, the home of the last president of Texas, Anson Jones, they would have used “store-bought” and homemade candles. The slaves might have used grease lamps or rush lights, or started their fires with flint and steel. At this event, guests six years and older will be able to try candle dipping, as long as supplies last.
Additional farm chores will be ongoing, depending on the weather conditions, but all can tour the house, kitchen, barn, and slave quarters in addition to this program. Contact Barb King at 936.878.2214 ext. 246 or barb.king@tpwd.texas.gov.
