Grand Re-Opening at Washington-on-the-Brazos

The Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site has undergone a $51 million renovation over the last two years. When re-opened on November 8, 2025, visitors will experience state-of-the-art exhibits at the Star of the Republic Museum and enhanced historical storytelling in the Visitor’s Center to introduce real people that lived and led the Republic of Texas. The Washington Townsite Experience will allow visitors to walk the streets of Washington, experiencing reproductions of pivotal landmarks in Texas history.
The event begins at 10am at the Visitor Center with a special ribbon cutting. Afterwards, the program “Citizens of the Republic” will take place until 4:30 at the newly recreated Washington Townsite Experience. This program will feature interactive and engaging living history programs in a choose your own adventure format! Scheduled historical scenes will be performed at Independence Hall, and at newly created buildings Sam Houston’s President’s Office, and the Congress Hall at Hatfield’s Exchange. Visitors will also be able to tour the newly renovated Star of the Republic Museum and Visitors Center. Food trucks will be on site providing food for visitors throughout the day. You won’t want to miss this once in a generation event!
