Juneteenth Heritage Celebration

06/25/2022, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join us to celebrate 157 years of freedom and emancipation in Texas at our Juneteenth Celebration! This year we are dedicating the event to its biggest promoter and supporter, the late Judge Eddie E. Harrison of Washington County. Judge Harrison was the key figure in creating this event in 2017 and we will be celebrating his Life and Legacy as a Community Leader!
The event will begin with a memorial service to Judge Harrison with presentations by his family and the Mt. Rose Male Chorus.
The memorial will be followed by a genealogical workshop from the Willie Lee Gay H-Town Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, and presentations by Brandi Waller-Pace of Decolonizing the Music Room and Myeshia Babers of Texas A&M University.
There will be food and craft vendors, noted African American authors, a temporary gallery from the Johnnie Swearingen Collection, an exhibit commemorating Judge Harrison, and informational booths from many organizations, museums, and businesses from across the Brazos Valley.
The day will conclude with performances by Fantasy Band and Brown Sugar Band.
Join us as we celebrate freedom on the Brazos River!
